Since 1910, Scouting has helped mold the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes and, through nearly a century of experience, understands that helping youth puts us on a path toward a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
Locally, the Boy Scouts of America, Laurel Highlands Council, serves nearly 14,000 youth members and 5,000 volunteer adult leaders throughout its multi-state footprint in Western Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and parts of West Virginia. Our mission is to be the premier youth development program in our communities by engaging young people to improve the world by inspiring leadership, character, and purpose. As everyone knows the last several months the world as we know it has changed dramatically. Scouts have been forced to cancel meetings, campouts and many activities. Scouting has not skipped a beat, Scouts and leaders went to work together to figure out ways to continue the program. They are virtually keeping in touch, hold meetings, earning badges and advancing towards Eagle Scout. Once given the green light Scouts were also ready serve the community. Many Packs and Troops can’t wait to get back to their regular schedule are planning a very active late summer and fall schedule. Scouting programs in Greene County for Comprehensive Youth Development includes Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. For almost 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. Comprehensive youth development through Scouting provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: try new things, provide service to others, build self-confidence and reinforce ethical standards.
