Aaron Houser
Executive Director, Growing Up Greene Aaron was born and raised in Greene County. After graduating West Greene High School and Washington & Jefferson College, he worked two years in the employ of Congressman Tim Murphy. Being promoted to Congressional Field Representative helped to shape his belief that real work with real people had to be done on the ground, not in Harrisburg or Washington D.C. One of the contacts he made during this time led him to his true passion, nonprofit social services.
Aaron began a 13-year stint with Domestic Outreach Center in 2006. DOC counseled first-time domestic violence offenders in anger management techniques. Houser served as one of three court liaisons and also as a trained anger management instructor. It was during this time that he met his wife |
Emily, a police officer in one of the courts he worked in. They bought a home together in Allegheny County at the same time that Emily was falling in love with Greene County on their weekend trips.
Deciding that they wanted to raise their future children in a more rural area, they moved to Greene County in late 2019. Emily began working for CYS while Aaron remodeled their home and applied for jobs. CASA of Greene County hired Houser as their first employee in February 2020, and he fell in love with the mission to help children find their way through some of the most difficult times in their young lives. Continuing the original programming and adding new projects to the mission allowed the organization to increase its impact for Greene County children.
The organization's annual Greene County Dodgeball Tournament and Children's Winter Gear Distribution have become pillar events in the community. In December of 2023, CASA of Greene County became Growing Up Greene, a nonprofit aimed at helping to reduce childhood trauma through all stages of the child-welfare process. This new name and expanded mission allowed for the launch of the Children's Emergency Overnight Housing Project, the Greene County Child Therapy Dog Pup Program, and a new children's book called COALBIE: A Foster Care Story.
Emily and Aaron now have two rambunctious boys, Tennessee and Ransom, along with their two dogs Oakley and COALBIE. Houser's personal mission is to ensure that his children and their friends have the best childhood possible. Continuing Growing Up Greene's mission to reduce childhood trauma is the most effective way that he can accomplish this goal.
