Blueprints - $2,550 - Aging Services Support Program
As the subcontractor for the Southwestern PA Area Agency on Aging, Blueprints has been delivering aging related programming to the older adults of Greene County since 1968. The program has enhanced the quality of life for seniors residing in Greene County through Care Management, Home Delivery Meals, Ombudsman and our Senior Centers. Support from Greene County United Way will allow Blueprints to adequately address senior hunger and isolation by offsetting the expense of Home Delivered Meals and Volunteer programs for Greene County’s homebound elderly.
Catholic Charities - $2,550 - Pregnancy and Parenting Support Program
Catholic Charities Pregnancy and Parenting Program provides support, at no charge, to women who are pregnant, possibly pregnant, or parenting an infant. In addition, fathers and other caregivers of infants under the age of two may also receive assistance. Catholic Charities puts the best interest of the child in mind when providing information including childbirth, growth and development, and parenting techniques. Parenting Support Services offers clients supportive counseling services on life skills education including time management, budgeting money, cooking healthy meals, and daily routines. Clients are provided with essential baby care items including diapers, formula, wipes and clothing investing in the community by fostering the ongoing welfare of infants and their families.
Corner Cupboard Food Bank - $2,550 - Refrigerated Truck Fund
A refrigerated truck allows CCFB to feed more members of the community and provide them with larger boxes of food, particularly with additional fresh produce year-round. Being able to pick up larger retail donations in one trip reduces the need to purchase additional food to meet the need. The grant will allow them to cover the cost of their 2023 lease while they wait for the availability of the truck they have ordered.
Cornerstone Care, $5,000 - Smile for Life, Oral Health Outreach Program
Smile for Life is a school-based oral health education program provided to all students in Greene County Elementary Schools and head Start programs. Children receive a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, information about Cornerstone Care services, Smile for Life Kid’s Club membership, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), 211 cards and funder information. In 2022, Cornerstone Care achieved 100% participation by all Greene County school districts for the mobile dental program.
WWJD Christian Center - $4,000 - WWJD Summer Camp
The Summer Day Camp is a six-week program for local children in grades first through sixth. Roughly 30-35 children participate each year. The allocation funds from United Way would be used to employ 3-4 senior counselors for the season. These counselors lead, plan, and facilitate the program under WWJD Christian Center and work directly wit the children for all six weeks. Employment is their largest expense. This program has been active since the summer of 2001.
Salvation Army - $2,475 - Emergency Direct Assistance Program
Through this program the Salvation Army provides emergency direct assistance for financially struggling individuals and families unable to make ends meet for basic needs, including meals, lodging and assistance for rent, household utilities, medical expenses, transient care and disaster services. Clients are able to resolve the immediate crisis, contact other community resources, understand behaviors leading to budgeting issues and learn how to better deal with crisis.
Dress for Success Pittsburgh - $2,475 - Mobile Boutique/Employment & Support
Dress for Success empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and life. In Greene County, the goal is to build out the program partnership base in order to reach even more women in need through participation in community events via the mobile boutique and outreach efforts. During 2021 and 2022, DFS saw a 48% increase in the number of women served in our community. They provide each client with professional attire to secure employment as well as resume review, interview techniques, etc.
Greene Arc, Inc. - $3,200 - Photography Program
Greene Arc, Inc.’s Adult Day Training (ADT) services consist of supervision, training, and support in general areas of self-care, communication, community participation, and socialization. Areas of emphasis include therapeutic activities and fine and/or gross motor development. Greene Arc looks to establish a photography club comprised of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This club would serve to break down the barriers of stigma and create a voice through expressive art. A significant portion of individuals within the program have struggled to verbalize their thoughts and effectively engage within their community.
CASA of Greene County - $2,000 - Advocate Software and Supplies / Winter Boots
CASA is requesting funds to purchase the annual subscription for the Optima tracking software, an office printer, and printer toner. The software is utilized by CASA’s Volunteer Advocates to track children’s individual cases in a confidential and convenient manner. While this electronic record of every case is kept in the Optima system, all appointed children also have two complete hard-copy case files kept on their behalf. Casa was also requesting funding to provide a wider selection of winter boots to local children during the 2023 Children’s Winter Gear Distribution.

The Summer Learning Program at Eva K. Bowlby Public Library is an established event, providing an 8 week day camp for children ages 6-12 to explore math, science, technology, and hands-on STEAM activities and reading. The Summer Learning Program address the “Summer Slide”, an occurrence defined as a loss of significant knowledge in reading and math over the summer break. The library staff will intellectually challenge children using an innovative curriculum to build on learned knowledge.
Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania - $4,400 - Youth Prevention Education Program
Greene County United Way funding will allow Domestic Violence to continue the prevention work in both Greene County School Districts and in the community. They currently offer a Social Emotional Learning curriculum with the elementary schools called Connected and Respected, a Healthy Relationship curriculum with the middle schools called Safe Dates, and we offer a Dating Violence Awareness program to the high schools. Programs are also offered to children in the community with the goal of continuing the conversation about healthy, respectful relationships beyond the classroom.
Flenniken Library-$4,400 - Children & Special Needs Adult Program
Libraries have a significant role in public and academic libraries. Generally, their duties include collection – cataloging, development, reference services, building partnerships with educational institutions, and providing instructional lecturers to visitors.

Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania provides year-round enriching programs and experiences to girls in grades K-12 through where they learn skills and values that improve lifelong economic and social well-being. Our leadership experience focuses on our four pillars including STEM, Outdoor, Life skills and Entrepreneurship. To help mitigate the financial challenges that so many are experiencing, they offer Girl Scout families assistance with any costs associated with our program. As families across the country contend with so much uncertainty and upheaval, GCUW’s investment in the mission of the Girl Scouts is more important than ever before.

Volunteer Reporting & Children's Corner
CASA of Greene County is requesting funds to cover the expenses associated with CASA’s annual Optima software subscription and the construction of a dedicated visitation area within CASA office space. Optima software is utilized by the appointed advocates to log investigation entries and track their individual cases. The CASA Kids’ Corner will be a visitation area available to all CASA advocates for their child and family visits. The area will also be offered to the hearing officers and judged as a neutral, family-friendly area for extended hearings and interview space.

Pantry Distribution Program
Each month, Corner Cupboard Food Bank distributes food to families in Greene County that suffer from food insecurity. Boxes of food are distributed to low-income households in Greene that are registered for the Pantry Distribution Program. Through eleven pantry sites, food is provided to over 2,000 people on a monthly basis. Greene County United Way assists the CCFB to continue addressing the needs of our clientele and carry out our mission to feed hungry people.

Smile for Life, Oral Health Outreach Program
Smile for Life is a school-based oral health education program provided to all students in Greene County Elementary Schools and head Start programs. Children receive a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, information about Cornerstone Care services, Smile for Life Kid’s Club membership, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), 211 cards and funder information. The program is presented in classrooms by nursing students from Waynesburg University and Greene County Career and Technology Center.

Greene County United Way funding will allow Domestic Violence to continue the prevention work in both Greene County School Districts and in the community. We are currently offering a Social Emotional Learning curriculum with the elementary schools called Connected and Respected, a Healthy Relationship curriculum with the middle schools called Safe Dates, and we offer a Dating Violence Awareness program to the high schools. Programs are also offered to children in the community with the goal of continuing the conversation about healthy, respectful relationships beyond the classroom.

Greene Arc requested financial support to enhance the programs and make more materials available to members with technology due to Covid-19 restrictions. They will use this technology (including large screen televisions, Apple TV, iPads, etc.) to enable individuals to participate in telehealth, virtual meetings, access new materials, and advance skill trainings that have been unavailable at this time. The addition of the products together will enable a massive increase in available technology that will have dramatic effects on the access to mental health recovery and enable staff to utilize new technology in a way to help more fluidly move the content into the hands of the learners while enhancing engagement.

Through this program the Salvation Army provides emergency direct assistance for financially struggling individuals and families unable to make ends meet for basic needs, including meals, lodging and assistance for rent, household utilities, medical expenses, transient care and disaster services. Clients are able to resolve the immediate crisis, contact other community resources, understand behaviors leading to budgeting issues and learn how to better deal with crisis.

As the subcontractor for the Southwestern PA Area Agency on Aging, Blueprints has been delivering aging related programming to the older adults of Greene County since 1968. The program has enhanced the quality of life for seniors residing in Greene County through Care Management, Home Delivery Meals, Ombudsman and our Senior Centers. Support from Greene County United Way will allow Blueprints to adequately address senior hunger and isolation by offsetting the expense of Home Delivered Meals and Volunteer programs for Greene County’s homebound elderly.

Volunteer Reporting & Children's Corner
CASA of Greene County is requesting funds to cover the expenses associated with CASA’s annual Optima software subscription and the construction of a dedicated visitation area within CASA office space. Optima software is utilized by the appointed advocates to log investigation entries and track their individual cases. The CASA Kids’ Corner will be a visitation area available to all CASA advocates for their child and family visits. The area will also be offered to the hearing officers and judged as a neutral, family-friendly area for extended hearings and interview space.

Catholic Charities Pregnancy and Parenting Program provides support and tangible assistance to expectant mothers and the parents and caretakers of children up to the age of two. Many of the parents we serve come from low-income homes and are struggling with crisis pregnancies. We provide pregnancy tests, guidance, and if desired, information about adoption. In addition, our case workers educate new parents on basic domestic skills (such as budgeting and time management), counsel them on infant-care and supply parents with tangible items, like diapers, formula and clothing.

Agency Admissions Application
Applications to become a United Way Community Partner Agency will be reviewed by the Greene County United Way's Executive Committee, which will recommend to the full Board of Directors acceptance or denial of the application. The Board of Directors will vote, and the applicants will then be notified of the Board's decision. Acceptance as a United Way Community Partner Agency allows you to apply for an Allocations grant. It does not guarantee that you will receive United Way funding.

2020 Community Impact Awardees
Waynesburg, PA – On May 4, Greene County United Way announced they will be distributing $40,000 to 11 community nonprofits for 2020’s Community Impact Grants. Each organization submitted a proposal detailing a program or service that assists Greene County residents, young and old.
“We were so impressed by the quality programming and services these organizations bring to our community. Each agency works extremely hard to help the residents of Greene County and we are excited to be a part of that work,” said Executive Director, MaChal Forbes.

CASA of Greene County is requesting funds to increase the number of volunteer advocates by training six new advocates by the end of 2020. This would allow CASA to increase the number of children served by 12, using the average of two children per case. In order to accomplish this goal, CASA would also require additional funds to cover the cost of the reporting software that the volunteers use to input and track case information.

There are 110 Girl Scouts in Greene County as of December 2019.

It’s a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. With an aging and medically fragile population, the need for AED’s are crucial.
