Since 1979, the United Way has changed lives throughout Greene County by bringing together community organizations and leaders to raise awareness around the needs and challenges for ALL our residents - young or old, disabled or financially struggling. We work alongside nonprofit agencies that offer solutions to critical issues, including protecting seniors, health and wellness, emergency assistance and education.
Each year, United Way supports a variety of programs and services so that residents have a place to turn if, and when, they are in need. Currently, our community partners include: 2nd Sam 9, American Red Cross, Big Brother Big Sisters, Boy Scouts, Blueprints, CASA, Catholic Charities, Cornerstone Care, Corner Cupboard Food Bank, Domestic Violence Services, Dress for Success Pittsburgh, Eva K. Bowlby Library, Flenniken Library, WWJD Center, Greene Arc, Girl Scouts, Salvation Army and SPHS Care Center – all agencies that provide comfort and hope to families throughout the year. Through the generosity of our donors, each and every dollar given to our Community Impact Fund makes a significant difference here, in Greene County. By donating to United Way, your gift supports multiple programs including the Corner Cupboard Food Bank's Pantry Distribution, making sure families get nutritious food each month or the Salvation Army's Emergency Utility Assistance, so struggling households can keep their heat on during the winter. The Community Impact Fund also supports an after school program, two summer reading programs, a pregnancy and parenting program and much, much more. For the last 20 years, United Way's Stuff the Bus has joined with local businesses and the community at large to provide students from K-12 backpacks filled with school supplies in all five districts. Each year, the event offers new shoes, free clothing, books, lunch, ice cream, hair cuts and dental cleanings as well as information about financial literacy, school programs, face painting, games and more! By the end of September, United Way, along with our Stuff the Bus sponsor First Federal Savings and Loan, will also collaborate with each Head Start and Intermediate Unit program to provide more than 900 backpacks in total. We are excited about the future of Greene County United Way. Beginning in September, we kicked-off Campaign to raise $125,000. To reach this goal, we need people and businesses to come together and help us expand our reach by creating new partnerships and finding creative ways to support our community. Forty (plus) years of service is a great foundation for what's to come and we would love for you to join us. If you want to be a part of United Way's future, we have a variety of opportunities! Call us, text us, message us on Facebook - just let us know 'cause we need passionate, caring people leading the way.
