Motivated by the love of God, as a leader in the Christian faith-based human services, the Salvation Army is committed to serving the whole person - mind, body and spirit - with integrity and respect, using creative solutions to positively transform lives.
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. The message is based on the Bible and the ministry is motivated by the love of God. Their mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Greene County Salvation Army Service Center provides emergency direct assistance to eligible low-income Greene County individuals and families in need of assistance with food, rent/mortgage payments, utilities payments, and/or emergency shelter. The assistance provided helps clients avoid being evicted from their homes, avoid utility disconnections, and helps with food insecurities. The Service Center's objective is to meet with each client while assessing their individual situation and immediate needs. After assessing their eligibility, they will make an assistance service plan. Residents served through their direct assistance program are given the opportunity to feel they are supported. Moreover, if needed, the Greene County Salvation Army connects them to other resources to better equip them with the tools necessary to manage, if not avoid, such instances in the future. They believe the collaboration with other agencies has a positive impact on the community. Working together with other providers, we all can help provide assistance to those who are homeless or living in poverty. During 2022, The Salvation Army served #1,100 cases of emergency direct assistance and had over 20,000 items given away at the warehouse. The Salvation Army has many volunteer opportunities throughout the year. During the winter, they need Red Kettle Bell Ringers, help with Project Bundle Up and Project Warm Up but they can use help all year long at their center. To learn more about the volunteer opportunities, please call 724-852-1479. |
